Benefiting Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE)

WHEN: November 9th and 10th, 2019

WHERE:

Majestic Farm

5700 OH-132

Batavia, OH 45103

The Event - Majestic Farm, a world-class equine facility, is hosting Dressage for a Cause, a fundraiser for CURE, November 9th and 10th, 2019 as part of its annual Turkey Trot Horse show. Majestic Farm is located just outside Cincinnati, Ohio.

The original goal was to raise $2,500! But thanks to #TeamChanning, we hit our goal 2 months before the event, so we set a new goal of $5,000!! And we did it...again!!  THEN, thanks to Majestic Farm's raffle-dream-team, we raised over $1,000.00 from raffle ticket & tack sales bringing donations to over $6,000.00! THANK YOU!!

If you missed us this year, we hope to see you November 7-8, 2020 in the arena at Majestic Farm! In the meantime, donations are always welcome, and if you're interested in being a sponsor or donating prizes to our 2020 Dressage for a Cause, please message Team Channing on Instagram or Facebook.

About Channing: Since her first pony ride, the barn has been Channing’s home away from home… it is her ‘happy place.’ In fact, it was on a Friday night prior to a weekend horse show that Channing had her first seizure. Instead of competing, she underwent a CT scan..it was just a few days before her 10th birthday.

For the next 10 years, Channing battled absence, juvenile myoclonic, and tonic-clonic seizures that would take days to recover from. On good days – when her brain was quiet – she continued to compete and progressed to the Jumpers class where the fastest rider over a series of jumps is declared the winner!

In case that sounds ridiculously dangerous for someone with epilepsy to do, Channing wears a protective vest which inflates and cushions her landing if and when she has a seizure and falls off her horse.

After countless anti-seizure medication combinations, Channing’s doctors arrived at a cocktail of meds that control the tonic-clonics. But now, 16 years into epilepsy, it’s the side-effects of the meds that can sometimes take days to recover from.

Heat and dehydration are the biggest triggers for dizziness, insomnia, hand tremors, lack of stamina, lack of appetite, lack of energy, nausea and vomiting that can keep Channing sidelined on the couch and away from the barn.

That’s why a cure is so desperately needed. If it’s not the challenges of the seizures themselves that Channing has to overcome in order to pursue her passion, it’s the side-effects of the 15 pills she takes daily (three different anti-seizure medications).

And that’s why Channing is taking her fight into the arena with Dressage for a Cause. Dressage is a true test of horse & rider that has its roots in the military, which is fitting, since Channing is a fierce epilepsy warrior in the arena fighting for a cure!
